Misadventure addresses the death of my brother in 1985 through the cyanotype process. With no possessions and only a few photographs of him, the images are realised through physical engagement with the objects and materials which correspond to the memories and associations I have with him. The cyanotype process offered an element of experimentation or risk and seeking a retrospective representation of life rather than death, I looked for moments of intensity during the development of each image; intentionally leaving the final result unrecorded. The sewn outlines, generated using archival photographs, employ thread dyes which correspond to the colours of the shirt he wore the last time I saw him. The stitched elements reflect the healing and regenerative nature of the process whilst simultaneously expressing absence and presence.
